Shoot for the Stars!
The 2009 Timberline Fall Camporee will be held September 25-27, 2009 at the Ben Lomond Gun Club. See the Leader's Guide for all the details and register your unit at Fall Camporee Registration.
Our goal is to make sure that you - Scouts, Scouters, Webelos and Parents– enjoy a weekend full of fun recreational shooting
Most of the activities will be themed around one of the BSA-approved shooting sports. Shooting sports are some of the most challenging and fun of the outdoor adventures. The 2009 Fall Camporee will allow Scouts to test their shooting skills and learn some new ones. Ranges will be set up for .22 rifle, shotgun, muzzle loading, archery and tomahawk in addition to some special events. We will also have BB guns, archery and tomahawk available for Webelos.
The facilities for the Camporee can only accommodate 500 participants. Registration is limited to Timberline District units until September 1, at which time registration will be available to units from other districts. Ensure your unit’s participation by registering early.
For additional information and to volunteer to help with the 2009 Fall Camporee, please contact John Troe or Jim Cathcart.
We’re looking forward to seeing all of you at the 2009 Fall Camporee!

Lights! Camera! Action! 2009 Klondike Derby
The 2009 Timberline Klondike was held on February 27 - March 1 at Reverend’s Ridge Campground. Over 400 Scouts and Scouters from 27 Troops braved the warm weather and minimal snow to attend the event. After settling in on Friday evening (and enduring a low temperature of 12), everyone awoke to a sunny Saturday morning. Scouts from Troop 876 conducted the Flag Ceremony to get the Klondike off to a rousing start. Scouts then visited “movie towns” as they pushed and pulled their sleds along the Klondike trail, receiving a score for Spirit, Teamwork and Skill.

Commissioner Basic Training (COMBAT) Held January 24, 2009
Commissioner’s Basic Training was just one component of that day long training. COMBAT training is designed for new Unit (UC) and new Assistant District Commissioners (ADC). This 6-8 hour course was presented by a team of experienced Commissioners from the Timberline District. The training was very well attended, it fact 27 new UC and new ADC attended the training. According to many within the Denver Area Council, this class of new Commissioners was the largest class in many years. Congratulations to all who attended, Commissioner Service is a very important role in Scouting. I would like to thank all the attendees and the instructors for making this such a success. Please download the presentation here.
Yours in Scouting,
Kurt Ballantyne, Course Director
2008 Camporee Recap
Thank you to all of you who attended the 2008 Timberline District Camporee. The weekend was wonderful, albiet a tad damp on Saturday afternoon. This year, we did something different and actually had lunch available for all the participants on Saturday. Most seemed to enjoy their lunches.
Fortunately, we have an exceptional District and several Troops were kind enough to volunteer to run one of the skills course events. I would like to thank the following Troops for helping out on Saturday:
Fire starting: 814
First Aid: 498
Knots: 640
Pioneering: 448
Shelter Building: 814
Map symbols: 808
Thank you to those who helped with the events. Also, we would like to thank the Sea Scouting Crew for running a very neat competition and presentation on maritime navigation. It was one of the more popular events. In addition, we also had the Geocrew set up several geocaches for Scouts to go and find.
Some of the other events include archery & tomahawk, an orienteering course, a map & compass course, and a treasure hunt. The treasure hunt went very well and a lucky patrol won the fabled Treasure Chest. Congratulations!
In addition, the winner of the cooking contest was Troop 538 who made the most excellent empanadas. Thank you to all who participated, it was a very tough decision and a pleasure to try all of your fine dishes. Please check here for the recipes.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves and we thank you for joining us. Make sure to start planning on attending next years Camporee, we are already starting to plan for it.
